Multiple People Shot at Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach Police say they have officers at the scene of the shooting with multiple victims

NEWS BRIEF | GUN VIOLENCE

VIRGINIA BEACH — A shooting has left two people dead and eight others suffering from gunshot wounds, police said.

Police reported that they received calls for shots being fired in the area of 20th street and Atlantic avenue shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. They state that while officers were investigating that scene, another shooting call one block over at 20th street and Pacific avenue.

Police confronted “an individual” at that scene, which resulted in a “police intervention shooting,” a spokesperson said. “That individual is now deceased,” he added.

A second person was found dead at 20th street and Pacific avenue, police said. They added that they do not believe that the deceased subject was part of the initial shooting either.

During the chaos, a police officer was struck by a vehicle at the Pacific avenue crime scene. He is expected to be OK, local news station Wavy 10 reports.

Police had advised the public to avoid the area oceanfront area between 17th street and 22nd street around 1 a.m. Saturday, as a large police presence was still out investigating.

While the police chief stated eight people were shot at the Atlantic avenue crime scene, a later confirmation by Wavy 10 indicated the official count was nine people.
