BORDENTOWN TWP. — A 36-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the charge that he arranged to have sex with a minor in a public park here.

Jason McCann of the 100 block of West Church Street in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township entered the guilty plea because of a deal worked out with the prosecutor’s office, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said.

The guilty plea was made March 10 in the Superior Court of Mount Holly.

Under the agreement, McCann plead guilty to Attempt to Commit Endangering the Welfare of a Child — Impairing or Debauching the Morals of a Child (Third Degree).

Also, he will be placed on the New Jersey Sex Offender Registry and will spend life on parole.

“The investigation began in July 2020 after McCann used an instant messaging app to arrange a rendezvous and send pictures of his genitals and videos of himself masturbating to someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl,” the prosecutor’s office said.

But, really, the person McCann was speaking with was a Special Agent with the United States Homeland Security Investigations. He was arrested in August 2020.

McCann is another one of the 30 individuals that have been arrested under Operation Safe Quarantine, a program set up by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office for the purpose of protecting minors from sex crimes while they spend more time online during pandemic lockdowns.

The United States Homeland Security Office in Cherry Hill assisted the Burlington County’s Hi-Tech Crimes Unit — a division of the prosecutor’s office.

In addition to the federal assistance, the investigation was aided by the Barrington Police Department, the Bordentown Township Police Department, and the Cinnaminson Township Police Department.

“The Prosecutor’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit, HSI – Cherry Hill and the Cinnaminson Township Police Department are members of the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force,” a news release accompanying the announcement said. “The BCPO also belongs to the New Jersey State Police Cyber Terrorism Task Force.”

McCann is scheduled to be sentenced July 14.
